    • Construction Connect: Episode 4

Now that a new year is upon us, it warrants another update concerning the construction in our School’s backyard. Even through the cold winter months, substantial progress has undoubtedly been made.

From afar, a major physical change is with the gathering and dining hall. At the start of the 2022-23 school year, all there was in place was the foundation and footings. However, every day, students continue to walk by the construction site and are able to view the vertical development and this exciting transformation. Currently, the vertical concrete structure has been solidified and major wood panels have been installed.

The dining and gathering hall features two levels, which is currently evident from the height of the structure. An elevator leads to the upper level mezzanine with rows of seats, and the west side is where the kitchen and servery reside. In the future, dining, assemblies, and likely Graduation and Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held in this facility. As of now, a major construction component that is missing is the roof of the mass timber structure which can be seen in the rendered right image below.

Similar to the academic buildings, the design and functionalities of the gathering and dining hall adhere to sustainable principles: it contains an in-house kitchen, roof-top garden for harvesting fresh produce, and an extensive array of glass to allow natural lighting to brighten the area.

For the academic buildings, there may not seem to be any major physical changes, except for some fitting of frames and glass panes on the east building that can be observed from our fields. However, much of the current work is being done on the interior. This includes electrical and mechanical work in addition to the installation of steel studs, drywall, and insulation, which are all necessary components.

Not that long ago, these new buildings were only written on a blueprint, but now the plans are coming to fruition. We will be in touch soon with a final  update for this school year.
